Islington Council recently approached us to design a set of nature reserve interpretation signage for their Gillespie Park Nature Reserve and Ecology Centre. We were thrilled as interpretation signage is one of our core specialisms, and this would be the first time our design work would be on display in the capital. In total six A1 panels were required housed in metal frames, using only sustainable materials, and delivered to Islington all within an eight week timeframe.
Gillespie Park is one of three nature reserves in the borough and is managed by the council’s nature conservation team. Along with the ecology centre the park provides Islington residents and businesses with advice and education on biodiversity and sustainability.
The Ecology Centre in the beautiful Gillespie Park Nature Reserve is an educational facility which welcomes school children and members of the public alike. It is designed and run as a model of green living, aiming to encourage people to live their lives in as green a way as possible.
The signs needed to provide clear interpretation of the different natural areas of Gillespie Park (using high quality illustrations of common species and wildlife illustrations), as well as directing visitors around the park more easily and in a way that encourages a full tour of the site.
Dandi Creative managed the whole project, including producing all the panel designs and wildlife illustrations (created by our inhouse illustrator Abi), managing the manufacture of the metal signage frames, and arranging ‘green’ print of the panels – we were also able to recommend and work with local Bristol based suppliers.
The project was a great success for all, it was a really nice job to work on for us creatively, and our client was thrilled with the results, which is ultimately everything we could ask for.
